COLLAR
Vintage 1960 buttons purchased from Dianne K & used for the side closure of the collar.
White lace and sequin leaves were dyed mauve using Ozpol dye from starr lace
The lace collar is made from $55 a metre lace purchased at DK fabrics. The pattern for the collar was created by making a toile first, then laying the pattern pieces over the lace so the scalloped edge of the lace would become the bottom edge of the collar.
Freehand machine embroidery was used to bond all the edges together, water soluble stabiliser was used under the embroidery and when washed away, the residual stabiliser left in the fabric allowed the collar to be shaped onto a plastic model as it dried to maintain the shape required.
flower cups made from synthetic organza, polyester, singed into a flower cup shape with an open flame used to melt the raw edges.
Facet crystals are sewn in the centre of each flower to secure it in place
BUSTIER
Vlisofix (applique webbing) painted with lumiere metallic paints.
A sheet of Vlisofix was spritzed with water to make the paper backing ripple. Then bright gold (552), metallic silver (563), true gold (550) and halo violet-gold (557) Lumiere paints were painted onto the surface. Once dry the Vlisofix was ironed onto a textured lavender velvet fabric. When the Vlisofix was cool the backing paper was carefully peeled off leaving the painted webbing on the pile of the velvet surface.
The bustier pattern was cut from the painted velvet panel and sewn together into sections. The lavender lace was placed over the fabric then cut and shaped to fit the flow of the shape. Flower motifs were cut from the main fabric and added to section of the surface to fill it out.
The lace was sew to the surface with freehand machine embroidery. Bobbinwork embroidery was add to further embellish the surface. Perle Crown in pale gold was used to make small circles all over the open spaces in the lace.
Black/gold metallic thread was used to embroider the lower petals of the rose motifs in the lace. This created a base of shadow which was enhanced with bugle beads in a fan pattern.
